Canva APPS Part 6
Canva just launched a built-in Texture App, and it changes everything. This guide shows you how to use it, where to find it, and which textures to try first to add depth and visual richness to your designs.
If you’re using Canva to design graphics, presentations, or social media posts, there’s one feature you may have seen but probably aren’t using to its full potential — the Position tool.
In this first installment of my Back to Basics Canva Series, I’m breaking down what the Position tool really does, how to use Layers inside Canva, and why this single feature can make your designs look cleaner, more organized, and more professional.
The Position tool in Canva lets you control how elements are arranged on your canvas.
With just a click, you can:
Bring an object forward
Send it backward
Align elements perfectly
Distribute spacing evenly
But the real magic happens when you use the Layers view inside the Position menu.
When you’re working on a design that includes multiple elements — text, shapes, images, textures, gradients — it’s easy for things to get messy.
By opening Position ➝ Layers, you get a clear visual list of every element in your project, from TOP layer to BOTTOM layer.
Think of it like a sandwich:
The top layer is what’s fully visible
The bottom layer sits behind everything else
Middle layers can be hidden depending on what’s above them
With Layers, you can:
Arrange elements exactly where they should go
Layer shadows under objects for depth
Add gradients behind text for better readability
Keep textures on top for extra detail
Imagine you have three elements: a texture, a background container, and text.
Version 1: Texture is at the top layer ➝ visible over the container
Version 2: Texture is at the bottom ➝ completely hidden by the container
The design looks entirely different simply because of the layer order.
Select any element on your canvas
Click Position in the top toolbar
Choose Layers
Drag and drop elements in the layer list to rearrange their order
Preview your design to see how the changes affect visibility and depth
Using Layers isn’t just about keeping things neat — it’s about controlling visual hierarchy.
This is what makes your designs feel intentional, balanced, and professional.
Whether you’re designing a LinkedIn carousel, Instagram post, or business presentation, mastering this feature will save you time and frustration.
